Media Relations Specialist / Publicist
As a publicist at XL PR, you're the engine behind our client work. You'll craft the pitches that land our clients in the media, build real relationships with journalists, and make sure every placement ties back to something that matters for the client's business.
What you'd do:
Write pitches for our clients that the media actually cares about
Strategic thinking and angle development
Create and maintain relationships with journalists
Secure interviews
Prepare media briefs
Monitor news and news coverage

Our hiring process
After hearing Erynn and Rachelle discuss XL PR, job opportunities, and our payment model, here's what comes next:
Step 1 — Earn your Muck Rack certification (free, about 2 hours) Every candidate completes the Fundamentals of Media Relations certificate from Muck Rack University. The program will help you understand what we do and how to find success in our industry. It's required for all potential employees. You'll create a free account to access the learning modules. → Start the certification here
Step 2 — Interview with Rachelle A conversation with Rachelle Peterson, co-owner of XL PR.
Step 3 — Trial period (2–3 weeks, $50 compensation) A short working trial with us. Your goal during this window is to secure two interviews. This gives both of us a real sense of fit before going further. This is just about 5-10 hours a week, not full time during the two weeks.
Step 4 — Final interview with Erynn and Rachelle A final conversation with Erynn Kerrigan, founder and co-owner of XL PR and Rachelle Peterson co-owner of XL PR. Plan on 90 minutes-2 hours and have your resume and references with you!
